Phishing refers to people outside the Points South network attempting to collect names, passwords, and other information from Points South customers, similar to identity theft. Two examples of e-mails received can be found here and here. These e-mails DO NOT originate from our network and should be either deleted or forwarded to connect@psouth.net so we can be made aware of them. It is tricky to block all of these with our spam filter, but once we know of specific messages, we can block them completely, as we have done with the two listed above. Please click here for more information on how to protect yourself from phishing. 13 April 2007: Over the past week, we've noticed a large increase in spam making it through our mail filters and ending up in customer mailboxes. After seeing this article, our initial thought that virus infected computers are pushing this spam spike seems to be confirmed. Please be assured that our spam filter gets hourly updates from the software vendor and we're blocking as much spam as we can safely identify. So far, today, we've allowed only 21,000 messages into our mail server out of 534,628 messages. We've all noticed the increase and have been fighting it as best we can. We now offer DSL service in many parts of the Sanford/Springvale area! Sign up before the end of the month and we'll waive our normal setup fee. 16 December 2005 Security Warning: Antivirus companies have noted a spike in infections of the Sober worm, a virus which replicates by sending out mass email. In order to protect yourself, make sure to keep an updated antivirus program. We're keeping our inbound email virus scanner up to date every hour and monitoring and blocking outbound email that is suspicious. This new release fixes a security flaw in the browser that could become dangerous.
